Calling it a miscommunication, the city of Marietta backed off a warning issued to Williamson Brothers Bar-B-Q and allowed the restaurant to continue flying its POW and Support Our Troops flags.

Wednesday morning a city code enforcement officer cited the restaurant on Roswell Road for flying a prohibited sign and having a non-governmental flag the pole outside the building. Williamson Brothers, which has been in the Marietta area about two decades and has flown the two flags on a pole underneath the American flag about 10 years. Before this week, the business has never had a complaint, said general manager Michelle Jehlen. She and other employees started a social media blitz and the backlash against the city was instant.

While The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was at the restaurant on Thursday, Marietta's development services director came by the restaurant, apologized to Jehlen and gave the consent to re-fly the flags.
