A program that provides residents with an inside look at the Marietta Police Department is now accepting applications for its upcoming class.

The Marietta Citizens Police Academy will begin Sept. 5, and is open to residents, businesses or property owners in the city. The department said the academy informs participants on what it takes to be a police officer.

Class members will be exposed to aspects of the Marietta Police Department, including crime analysis, traffic enforcement, crime scene processing, investigative services, special weapons and tactics (SWAT), crime interdiction unit, community response unit and narcotics.

The 10-week free academy runs 6-9 p.m. Thursdays at the Marietta Police Department at 240 Lemon Street. Applications are available at the agency's front desk or online. You can also call the citizens police academy coordinator Adam Gravitt at 770-794-5356 or agravitt@mariettaga.gov.
