A resident at a southwest Atlanta boarding house was stabbed to death early Monday, and a second resident was arrested and charged with murder.
Joseph Giddens was stabbed multiple times around 7:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Brookline Street, in the Adair Park neighborhood south of West End, according to Atlanta police.
Police arrested Darrell Lowe, 47, and charged him with murder.
The stabbing happened in a rooming house for homeless veterans, according to neighbors and other residents of the home.
Resident Michael McCord said the victim was in his late 40s or early 50s.
"Early this morning, I went to use the restroom and I went back to go to sleep and somebody had a bickering about some money or something," McCord said.
"I heard a scuffle going on," McCord said. "Another guy had a knife and knifed [the victim]."
Laurie Nickless recently bought the property next door to the boarding house.
She said Giddens "had started doing work for us around the yard."
"We saw him on Saturday and he told us Happy Easter and he asked us if we would bring him a Bible," she said. "We gave him a Bible and he sat over there and read his Bible. I think that it's ironic that the last time I saw him, he was asking for a Bible."
