A 28-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing two people, including an innocent teenage bystander, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday.

Deangelo Gales was charged with murder and voluntary manslaughter for the fatal shootings of 33-year-old Henry Bryant and 16-year-old Deaun Davis.

Gales shot them on May 24, 2010 outside a home on Selwin Avenue in southwest Atlanta, authorities said.

Witnesses said Gales and Bryant, who were known to have disputes, got into an argument and Bryant pulled out a weapon that jammed, so he set it aside. Gales left to get a weapon from his vehicle and started shooting when he returned.

Davis, a bystander not involved in the feud, was fatally wounded. Bryant, who also was wounded, fell to the ground, where Gales stood over him and shot him seven more times, authorities said.

Gales left the scene in his car and was arrested three days later at a friend's home.

After the arrest, the 16-year-old's mother, Natasha Davis, told the AJC, "My son can rest in peace."

Gales' full sentence is life in prison, plus 20 years to run concurrently.
