Lithonia woman shot to death Saturday lived with DeKalb cop
A Lithonia woman, who neighbors say was the fiancee’ of a DeKalb County police officer, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon, police said.
The mother of four was found shot outside her home in the 700 block of Kilkenny Circle just after 4 p.m., police said.
Neighbors say the woman lived with a police officer who wasn’t home at the time of the shooting.
DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish on Monday identified the victim as Jameelah Qureshi, 40.
Parish said Qureshi was the girlfriend of a DeKalb police officer, but he is not a suspect in her death. She did not release the officer's name.
No arrests have been made, Parish said.
District 5 County Commissioner Lee May lives near the woman’s home and said he heard the shots.
“It’s just amazing that nobody was outside when it happened,” May said. “Usually, there are kids outside playing.”
He said residents are concerned, but they have seen a heightened police presence in the area since the shooting.
