In studies conducted by Lawrenceville officials, residents have repeatedly expressed a desire to slow down traffic through downtown and regain a sense of community in the area.

In an effort toward that goal, the Lawrenceville City Council has approved $22,500 to provide a planning-level study for the removal of existing state routes through the city.

The contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates will evaluate a series of alternatives for removal of the existing State Routes US 29/SR 8 and SR 120 through the downtown area and re-designation of those routes to other existing roadways in the general area.

The city desires more flexibility for pedestrian and traffic control along these routes to accommodate events, retail parking, redevelopment, and other general traffic and pedestrian control within the downtown area. Re-designating the existing state routes around the downtown area would provide Lawrenceville more flexibility for these activities.
