Kennesaw State University Master Craftsman program students are putting their skills to the test with a project to create a new sign for Aviation Park.

The Town Center Community Improvement District and Town Center Community Alliance have unveiled the design for the new sign. The 19-foot-wide stainless steel structure will include the name of the park and paper airplane-like figures, some of which will be as tall as 10 feet.

KSU students have started working on the sign, and installation is expected to be complete in December. The sign will be installed at the corner of Barrett Lakes and Cobb Place boulevards adjacent to the end of the Cobb International Airport runway.

The Town Center CID said the project is one of several ways the Alliance, a nonprofit organization that funds beautification projects within the district, is working to enhance Aviation Park, which opened in November 2017 and has a playground area and open space for airplane viewing.

The Alliance has teamed up with KSU's Department of Museum, Archives and Rare Books to roll out phase two of the park. Those plans call for a plane display and art, history and STEM-focused exhibits, the CID said. You can learn more about the park by visiting the Town Center CID website.
