Gov. Brian Kemp’s decision to extend the statewide closure of the schools through the end of the current school year has educators in Cherokee and Forsyth counties scrambling to determine how they’ll close out the year.

Kemp’s action, an attempt to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus, means the cancellations of all events scheduled through May 31 in the Cherokee County schools, including special events, extra-curricular activities and community leases, district officials said.

Yet to be determined are the completion of the academic year, final grades and graduation. Digital Learning Days will continue, with a one-week hiatus April 6-10 for spring break. Information: https://bit.ly/341ZoR7

The Forsyth County schools also have online learning in place and said they await word from the state in the coming days addressing "logistical and policy issues created by this action." With more information from the state, "we will be able to share what the remainder of our school year will look like for all involved." Information: https://bit.ly/2UErcGU
