Hot car death trial to resume in Brunswick

Jury selection in the Ross Harris murder trial will begin anew Sept. 12 in Brunswick.

The announcement comes six weeks after jury selection was halted in Cobb County in the trial of a Smyrna father accused of intentionally leaving his son in a hot car to die. Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary Staley Clark granted the defense’s request for a change of venue after weeks of jury selection.

Cobb court administrator Tom Charron said he doesn’t expect the process to take as long as it did this spring. He said two weeks has been allotted to pick a jury, with the trial expected to last another four to six weeks.

Staley Clark will not enter a formal order about the change until after a pre-trial hearing, scheduled Aug. 19. Once that’s done, all proceedings will have to take place in Glynn County.
