If you’re a history buff and love local beers, this event is for you.

The DeKalb History Center is hosting an event on April 17 focused on the history of beer in the south. The speakers, Mary O. Boyle and Ron Smith, wrote the book "Atlanta Beer: A Heady History of Brewing in the Hub of the South."

The book chronicles beer’s rise in popularity, from the “saloons of the 1800s to the ever-growing brewing industry seen today,” the history center said.

Tickets are $5 for history center members, and $10 for non-members. They include a drink ticket and four samples of local beers.

Smith is an artisanal beer expert who runs the Beer Guru Atlanta Blog, and Boyle is webmaster for the site. Boyle also produces a local pub’s newsletter and plans to add a line of beer-themed jewelry to her jewelry business.
