The recent work around I-285 and Ga. 400 in the top-end Perimeter area of North Fulton and DeKalb counties has all been preliminary to the main event: The reconstruction of the interchange begins in earnest this spring. Information: https://bit.ly/2E5uFUt

The latest "Transform 285/400" newsletter of the Georgia Department of Transportation says North Perimeter Contractors LLC will begin construction this spring of a new bridge connecting southbound Ga. 400 to eastbound I-285, as well as a flyover ramp from eastbound I-285 to northbound Ga. 400, and a new bridge and ramp alignment from westbound I-285 to southbound Ga. 400.

On Ga. 400, the existing, northbound, flexible shoulder “flex” lane between Abernathy and Pitts roads was permanently closed April 6. The southbound flex lane there will be closed later. Flex lanes north of Pitts will remain open weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

A detour at Mount Vernon Highway and Barfield Road started March 19 and will be in place for about eight weeks. The first half of the new Mount Vernon bridge over Ga. 400 is to be completed later this year, and the second half, in late 2019.

Also this spring, blasting will occur on both sides of I-285 near Perimeter Center Parkway to remove rock in preparation for new collector-distributor lanes next to the interstate.
