The replacement of a culvert on Old Senoia Road in Fayette County has been significantly delayed by problems with a gas line.
The project was halted in May after a six-inch gas line was found to be within the area where the new culvert’s footing must go. Atlanta Gas Light’s contractor could not finish relocating the line until Aug. 8 due to scheduling conflicts, equipment issues and working around rock at the site. The county’s contractor, McCoy Grading Inc., will now resume construction on the culvert repair, but curing the concrete will take several weeks, followed by materials testing and inspections before the new pipe can be put in place.
The county estimates the road will not reopen to traffic until November; the existing detour along Harp Road, Redwine Road and Hawn Road will remain in effect.
