A fast food concept spawned from a popular Gwinnett County Korean barbecue restaurant failed its recent health inspection, with officials reporting poorly washed dishes and utensils and raw foods stored improperly.

Wings and Steak (formerly known as Breakers Express) at 4051 Stone Mountain Highway in Lilburn received a 64/U on the Tuesday afternoon inspection.

According to the inspector's report, an employee was seen washing and rinsing dishes "without sanitizing." Multiple utensils were stored either in tepid water or in direct contact with food.

Raw cheesesteak meat, chicken and beef were stored over ready-to-eat foods, and raw eggs were being kept with salad dressings and carrots, the report said. Packages of cheese were not properly date-marked.

"Facility does not have a verifiable way indicating that employees are knowledgeable in the employee health policy," the report said.

According to its website, Wings and Steak/Breakers Express is a fast food spinoff of the popular Breakers Korean BBQ & Grill in Duluth. It has four locations around metro Atlanta.

Assistant manager Danny Yang said Wednesday that, despite the failing inspection, his restaurant is "spick and span."

"It's just a couple of issues, minor stuff," he said. "This is one of the cleanest restaurants in town."

A follow-up inspection will be completed at the Lilburn location within 10 days of Tuesday's failing evaluation.
