Snellville’s Eastside Medical Center is in the process of adding a new emergency department to one of its satellite campuses.

The new, full-service emergency department is expected to open this summer at Eastside’s south campus on Fountain Drive, just off U.S. 78 and about two miles from the main hospital. It will cost about $2.8 million and feature 11 beds, officials said Thursday.

“With a growing population in Eastside’s surrounding area, we recognized the need for additional access points for emergency care along the Highway 78 corridor,” Eastside Medical Center CEO Trent Lind said in a news release. “Our new South Campus ED will be an extension of our current emergency services and allow us to provide even broader access to emergency care for our patients.”

The new emergency room will be about a quarter of the size of the 46-bed facility on Eastside’s main campus.

Thursday's announcement comes on the heels of the hospital announcing plans to open three new urgent care centers in various parts of Gwinnett County.
