Even during the coronavirus pandemic, Douglas County is continuing to use SPLOST dollars to construct projects, according to a county news release on April 16.

Currently, the county has three of the largest projects under construction, including:

  • the $16 million Public Safety Radio Systems, which are nearing completion,
  • the 18,100-square-foot Senior Activity Center at 7217 S. Sweetwater Road, Lithia Springs next to Firehouse Station 1 and
  • the 25,000-square-foot Multipurpose Center at Boundary Waters.

The Senior Activity Center will be the county’s second, joining the Woodie Fite Senior Center, 8750 Dorris Road, Douglasville across from the Douglas County Courthouse.

Also, 33 other projects are underway in some form of scope, design or construction.

They include:

  • building the Whitestone Culvert,
  • improving the intersection of Sweetwater Church Road and Dorris Road and
  • replacing the concessions at Bill Arp Park and FairPlay Park.

More than 40 SPLOST projects already have been completed.
