DeKalb County is looking for volunteers to help clean up parts of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area this weekend.
The county’s recreation, parks and cultural affairs department is hosting “Flat Rock Culture and Volunteer Day” on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Flat Rock, located near the park, is a historic African American community believed to be the oldest African American settlement in DeKalb. It is now home to the Flat Rock Archives, a museum that documents the history of the area.

“Citizens are invited to join park staff and Flat Rock Archive representatives as they beautify and restore the park,” the county said in a statement. “Volunteers will learn about the rich African-American history in south DeKalb.”
Interested participants should meet at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center at 1:30 on Sunday with a water bottle and proper footwear. The center is located at 3787 Klondike Road in Stonecrest.
