UPDATE: Mojo passed its follow-up health inspection on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with a score of 90, according to the DeKalb County Board of Health.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A pizza restaurant in Decatur’s Oakhurst neighborhood failed its health inspection on Jan. 15, scoring a 62.

Mojo Pizza n’ Pub on East Lake Drive will have a chance to improve on the failing score during a follow-up inspection.

According to a DeKalb County Board of Health report, an inspector saw tongs, pots and bowls being stored with “old food residue and dead flies on plates.” A walk-in cooler also held deli meet and meatballs that had been prepared a week earlier.

Several foods were not being kept at the proper cold temperatures, according to the report.

Most of the violations were corrected on-site during the inspection. Mojo was “advised to clean and notify pest control regarding fly activity,” and was told to clean its shelves and the sides of equipment.

The restaurant, which has become a community staple in Oakhurst, has never failed a health inspection before, owner Pete Whitlock said. According to the report, Mojo received scores of 89 and 82 in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Whitlock said Mojo corrected the errors and is set to pass its follow-up inspection.
