This is a roundup of recent crimes of note in north Fulton County. It is based on arrest warrants, police reports and jail records. At this point, these are allegations by law enforcement. For crimes in Sandy Springs, some of these reports are from Capt. Steve Rose’s “Weekly Wrap-Up.”

Slashed at the club

A 61-year-old man was attacked by a woman at a night club in Sandy Springs on April 30, police said. The man told police he had gotten into an argument with the woman earlier in the day. That night, he went to the LaDona Bar and Nightclub on Northwood Drive. As he exited the club, the woman confronted him and hit him in the face with a glass bottle, causing it to shatter, police said. With the bottle broken, she jabbed him in the face causing “serious” cuts. The man was treated at Northside Hospital and the woman was arrested.

Machete man wants rent

Police in Sandy Springs arrested a man on May 2 after responding to a call about a person armed with a machete. Police found the suspect and the machete, and the suspect claimed an argument broke out after he confronted his roommate about late rent. The suspect left the room, but then returned wielding the machete, demanding everyone leave the home on Granite Ridge Place, police said.

Food wasn’t free

A man was arrested at the Tijuana Joes on Roswell Road on April 30 after he got “intoxicated” and refused to pay his $29 tab, police said. He ordered a “Rancho Grande Burrito,” a small cheese dip and two 12-ounce margaritas. The man got into an argument with police when officers arrived.

Blackbelt fights off robbery

According to a police report, a man who works at the AMC Theatre on North Point Parkway fought off an armed robbery attempt by a homeless man on May 3. Police said the man went behind the theater to check the trash compactor when a homeless man approached him. The suspect is described as being 6-foot-2, having a scruffy beard, brown hair and wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt. The suspect asked the theater worker for his wallet, but the man said he didn’t have one. According to the police report, the suspect then pulled out a 12-inch black switchblade knife and lunged at the theater worker. The theater worker told police he is a second-degree black belt, and he dodged the lunge, grabbed the suspect’s wrist, twisted it, disarmed him and then punched him in the neck. He told police that the homeless man ran off towards the woods behind the theatre. A K-9 officer was unable to locate the homeless man.

Fanny pack man steals gift cards

Police said a man wearing a fanny pack stole two $500 gift cards from the Walgreens at 5510 Windward Parkway in Alpharetta on May 3. According to the account the store manager gave to police, the suspect entered the store looking for an iPhone battery pack. He later approached the counter looking to purchase two Visa gift cards and asked for each card to be loaded with $500. Midway through the transaction, the man asked the cashier for a specific type of cigar. When the cashier turned around to get it, the suspect reached over the counter and activated the cards by pushing a button on the computer, and then fled the store.

In addition to his fanny pack, the suspect is described as being bald, about 5-foot-8 and wearing a plaid shirt.
