Cobb County Schools Board of Education took the next step Wednesday to become an Educational Excellence System that will give the district flexibility and more local control. The board in a unanimous vote agreed to submit a five-year contract to the State Board of Education for the IE2 operating system.

The board chose the IE2 system instead of status quo or charter systems to also keep $44 million in state waivers in place.

The new system won’t change Title I or other federal programs.
