Cobb Mexican restaurant fails health inspection with 53

Georgia has rules it requires every food service operation to follow. These are just a few of the many health and safety regulations. Food service operations without a permit are illegal. Employees must know how to prevent foodborne illness and the symptoms of those illnesses. Food must be kept at the correct temperatures to prevent pathogens from growing. Employees must meet standards of cleanliness while working around food. If health laws are not met, the food service's permit may be suspended.

A Cobb County Mexican restaurant received a failing grade on its recent food service inspection.

La Fiesta Grande at 1199 Bells Ferry Road in Marietta scored a 53, or U, on its June 20 inspection conducted by the Cobb & Douglas Public Health Department. Anything below a 70 is considered failing.

According to the inspector’s report, the restaurant was cited for a worker separating raw chicken and retouching sink knobs and lighters without washing his or her’s hands.

La Fiesta Grande also was dinged for a fan blocking a hand sink; raw chicken and beef stored above avocados, limes and sour cream; black and pink substances inside an ice machine; tables being cleaned without sanitizer; and cold food items holding above 41 degrees Fahrenheit. The back door to the kitchen was also open, the report indicates.

A follow-up inspection is scheduled for July 5. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution placed a call and left a message for the restaurant’s manager.
