Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services opened their new indoor Physical Ability Test (PAT) training gym on Dec. 6 at 3200 Austell Road, Suite 130, Marietta.

At 6,500 square feet, this new indoor facility is one of a handful of such dedicated PAT gyms in the nation, according to CCFES Public Information Officer Denell Boyd.

Costing nearly $850,000 for buildout and equipment, the facility was completed within five months, Boyd said.

Year-round PATs can be conducted for pre-hire applicants and firefighters in a climate-controlled environment.

CCFES can use clean equipment that is free of potential carcinogens which can adhere to primary equipment, Boyd added.

Cancer prevention and associated training are paramount to all members within CCFES, and the new PAT gym allows CCFES to remain progressive in its cancer prevention initiative.
