Forbes magazine has named the Cobb County School District one of Georgia’s top 25 employers.

The school district ranks 23rd on the list of best employers by state, which includes companies such as Google, Emory University, Shaw Industries, Home Depot, Amazon, Lockheed Martin, Chick-fil-A and Publix.

The Cobb school system has an enrollment of about 112,000 students and roughly 18,300 employees.

The only other public school system that made the best-employer list was Houston County Schools, which is located in central Georgia.

Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said the system already knew that Cobb is the best place to lead and “it is outstanding that a national outlet, like Forbes, agrees.”

“One of the reasons Forbes ranks Cobb as the top school district in Georgia is because we make people a priority, both our students and our staff members,” he said.

The district said its commitment to its staff members is evident in the Cobb school board's approval of its fiscal year 2020 budget that included 8 to 12.6% raises for every non-temporary employee in the system.
