Cherokee sheriff nabs burglary suspects

Two Cherokee County burglary suspects apparently picked the wrong escape route because they were collared by the sheriff himself.

Deputies were called to a home in the Bridgemill subdivision near Canton Wednesday morning after homeowners checking on their vacant house heard noises in the basement. They then saw a man and woman flee and climb over the backyard fence.

Moments later Sheriff Roger Garrison, who’d been in the area on unrelated business, spotted the pair walking down a sidewalk nearby. Alexander Hale and Gabrielle Ricci, both 18 and from Atlanta, are in jail on $11,200 bond charged with burglary.

Deputies are looking for two other suspects also reportedly in the home at the time. They said that nothing was taken during the break-in.
