The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved a $44,715 contract with SERV International for the purchase and delivery of food boxes to eligible senior citizens.

The purchase will be reimbursed out of $100,654 provided to Cherokee County Senior Services for meals to seniors 60 years old and older. The funds are from the federal Family First Act in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant requires no matching funds from the county, staff said in a report to commissioners.

“SERV is a non-profit organization with headquarters in Cherokee County that is qualified to support the county in meeting the requirements of the grant to provide nutritional services,” staff said. “The total cost per food box is $70.”

Food will be delivered during the next four months to seniors sheltering in place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Eligibility requirements are set by the Atlanta Regional Commission. For information about Senior Services: https://bit.ly/3dJsnMB
