A Clayton County man is recovering from a broken ankle and road rash bruises after a carjacker took off with him on the hood of his car on Saturday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Marlin McCrary told police he stopped at a Food Depot on Hwy 42 to drop off a movie at the Red Box around 10 p.m.

When McCrary turned around, a man was in his car. McCrary stepped in front of his car and the driver hit him, forcing him onto the hood.

“He didn’t slow down,” McCrary told the news station. “All I could do is hold on for dear life and he just took off through the parking lot.”

The alleged carjacker hit speeds up to 70 mph as he headed out to I-675, where McCrary was thrown off the car and into a ditch.

Clayton police spokesman Capt. Stefan Schindler told Channel 2 McCrary is lucky to be alive.

“No matter what you do if you get out of your vehicle you need to turn your vehicle off and you need to lock your vehicle,” Schindler said.

McCrary wants anyone with information to call police because he wasn’t able to get a solid description of the carjacker, a man in his mid 20s or 30s.

“I want you to turn him in cause he tried to kill me,” McCrary told Channel 2.
