Buford residents overwhelmingly voted this week to approve plans to build a new high school. In the special election held Tuesday, voters approved 204-12 to spend up to $35 million in general obligation bonds to pay for the new school. The $50 million school will be built on 30 acres adjacent to Buford Elementary School and the current Buford High School at 2750 Sawnee Avenue.

Buford currently holds $14 million in sales tax funds and approximately $8 million in growth funds set aside for the construction. Planning will begin right away with construction to start next spring. Buford anticipates the new high school could open in time for the 2017-18 school year.
