Brookhaven police used a PIT maneuver on a busy metro Atlanta road Wednesday to stop a fleeing car that held five suspected burglars, officials said.

The pursuit, captured on dashcam video, shows the car zipping around other vehicles heading south on Buford Highway, before hopping the curb to turn onto Lenox Road.

The two-minute chase began after a Brookhaven officer spotted a stolen car driving on Curtis Drive about 2:45 p.m., Brookhaven police said in a statement. The car, police said, had been involved in at least two attempted burglaries earlier Wednesday.

“As the officer began to follow the car, the driver nearly immediately began to flee,” police said. “The Brookhaven police officer activated his lights and siren and gave chase.”

Police followed the car over the curb and onto Lenox Road. Then, the officer used a PIT maneuver (short for pursuit intervention technique) to stop the car by clipping its right rear bumper. That caused the vehicle to spin to the right and stop.

Officers apprehended five juvenile males believed to be involved in the earlier burglaries, according to police. They were not identified, and officials said the investigation is ongoing.
