Uber and Uber Eats plan to resume service Tuesday morning after the company suspended service in Atlanta as weather conditions worsened with Tropical Storm Irma.
The company said it made its decision to suspend service at 3 p.m. Monday with the safety of riders and drivers in mind.
“We strongly advise our riders and driver-partners to make safety a priority,” company spokeswoman Evangeline George said. “We will continue to closely monitor the situation and resume operations as soon as we can safely do so.”
Although Lyft spokeswoman Campbell Matthews also said the safety of their company’s drivers and passengers is their “top priority,” Lyft had not stopped service.
“We are closely monitoring conditions and staying in communication with area drivers and city leaders,” Matthews said.
Irma’s staggering march is bringing high winds and heavy rains to Atlanta. Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said metro Atlanta could see winds gusting from 40 to 50 mph, and as much as 4 inches of rain.
