SWAT team officials have been trying to coax a man out of a building since about 6 p.m. Tuesday, Atlanta police said.
When an Atlanta police officer on a motorcycle tried to make a traffic stop near Fulton Street and Whitehall Terrace in Southwest Atlanta, the driver ran to a nearby building and barricaded himself inside, police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender said.
After stopping near 555 Whitehall Street, the man left his vehicle and holed up in a building until SWAT officials arrived, Bender said.
“We currently have our SWAT Team as well as our Hostage Negotiation Team on scene,” Bender said about 9:30 p.m. “This is an active incident and we will update you as more details become available.”
