Fire and emergency officials are investigating an explosion at the ARI plant in Orchard Hill, the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

The explosion burned two people, including one worker who has third-degree burns on more than 90 percent of his body, a fire official told WSB Radio.

First responders were unable to airlift the severely burned man due to thunderstorms at the time, WSB Radio reported. Neither his condition nor the hospital he was taken to has been released.

Officials urged residents to stay clear of the area, which was cleared about 6:15 p.m., according to Channel 2 Action News.

A sprinkler system at the facility put out the fire, WSB Radio reported.
