A 6-year-old boy drowned in the Chattahoochee River Saturday afternoon while swimming with family members at McIntosh Reserve Park, officials said.
The boy’s body was found about 5:30 p.m. in the same area where 28-year-old Timothy Shane Phillips went underwater and drowned last Saturday, Carroll County Fire Deputy Chief Bud Benefield said.

Crews found the boy's body in eight to 10 feet of water, about 50 yards from where Phillips drowned.
This is the fourth drowning in this location since April and three of the four victims were age 14 or younger.

While it is not against the law to swim in the McIntosh area of the river, it is not a designated swimming area and Benefield encourages people not to swim in the dangerous water.
Carroll County Fire Chief Scott Blue previously said strong undercurrents that cannot be seen can carry swimmers under the water.
“The currents in this type of water are often stronger than you expect and can change very rapidly,” Blue said.
