Barrow County schools to hand deliver diplomas to class of 2020

The Barrow County School System will be graduating 848 seniors this week from Apalachee and Winder-Barrow High Schools. Efforts are underway to make their accomplishment a special celebration.
Each principal, student leader, and Superintendent Dr. Chris McMichael will pre-record graduation speeches that will play on the district and school websites, district and school social media, district YouTube channel and BOLD TV – Xfinity channels 21 and 24 beginning at 6 p.m. on graduation day:
• Wednesday, May 20 for Winder-Barrow High School
• Thursday, May 21 for Apalachee High School
Immediately after the 30-minute graduation celebration videos staff from each high school will personally deliver diplomas to graduating senior’s homes where they can celebrate with their families. Staff will be wearing masks and maintaining social distances while they deliver diplomas and take a picture of the senior in their cap and gown.
Traditional, in-person ceremonies have tentatively been scheduled for the end of July, pending approval by the Department of Public Health and Department of Education. Each graduation will be held in the stadium, as originally planned. Winder-Barrow’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for July 29 and Apalachee’s on July 30.
