Austell to vote on pay raises for elected officials
Austell City Council members have delayed their pre-agenda meeting from Monday to 6 p.m. June 1 at City Hall, 2716 Broad St. SW, followed by their voting meeting at 7 p.m. to decide on whether to approve pay increases for elected officials.
Beginning Jan. 1, the mayor/city manager would receive a $6,000 raise to bring the pay to $36,000 annually. That would go to Mayor Joe Jerkins if he is re-elected in November.
The six city council members would receive an additional $2,400 for a total of $14,400 each, also starting Jan. 1.
The city council will hold the last of two public hearings June 1 on the 2015-16 budget that goes into effect July 1.
No tax increases are proposed in Austell’s new $7.6 million budget.
However, three percent salary increases would go to city employees because of a $618,000 revenue hike from increased customer usage of the Austell Gas System.
Health care costs for city employees would increase to $100,000, with open enrollment to begin Jan. 1.
