Atlanta deputy honored for saving suicidal woman

The Buckhead Business Association has honored a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, credited with saving the life of a woman who was attempting to commit suicide.

In early July, Deputy Sheriff Vivian Dixon-Bradford was working her overnight shift in the Court Services Division when she answered an emergency call from an upset mother in Florida, said sheriff officials.

The mother was pleading for help for her daughter who emailed a suicide note to her mother. The daughter lived in Atlanta. The mother had been unsuccessful in reaching her daughter after receiving the note.

The deputy stayed on the telephone with the mother in Florida while making contact with an Atlanta Police 911 dispatcher. The dispatcher sent two units to the daughter’s home along with an emergency medical team.

The young woman would not answer the door and officers decided to breach the door, according to officials. The young woman was unconscious when EMT’s reached her. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Later that morning, the mother called Deputy Dixon-Bradford to update her on the daughter’s condition and thanked her for her help.
