Gov. Nathan Deal has ordered flags at the Georgia State Capitol to be flown at half-staff Wednesday, the day of the funeral for slain Gwinnett County police Officer Antwan Toney.
Deal's executive order also called for flags in Gwinnett to be lowered in honor of Toney, who was shot and killed Saturday while responding to a suspicious vehicle call near Snellville.
The teenager tied to Toney’s death, 18-year-old Tafahree Maynard, was killed Monday during an encounter that took place less than two miles from the original crime scene. According to authorities, Maynard was found hiding in a shed and was shot and killed after lunging at officers with a lawnmower blade.
Visitation services for Toney — a 30-year-old, three-year veteran of the Gwinnett County Police Department — will be held Tuesday at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Peachtree Corners. Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at 12Stone Church, 1322 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville.
