Ex-Alpharetta firefighter arrested for child porn for second time

A former Alpharetta firefighter has been charged with possession of child pornography — again.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and probation officers from the Department of Corrections executed a sweep at Canton’s Homestead Inn on Monday night, checking the compliance of six registered sex offenders living at the motel. Two of the sex offenders were arrested, including Tristen Cruz, who was charged with sexual exploitation of children “after detectives located child pornography in his possession,” Cherokee sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.
Cruz, now 40 years old, was a captain with the Alpharetta fire department during the 2008 arrest that landed him on the sex offender registry in the first place. At the time, representatives from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said they found numerous child porn images on Cruz’s computer and he was charged with six counts of possession of child pornography.
Cruz was placed on administrative leave from the fire department following his arrest and, according to the state sex offender registry, was convicted on Nov. 11, 2011.
No further information was provided regarding Cruz’s Monday arrest, but Baker said he was being held at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center without bond.
Also arrested during Monday’s sweep was 43-year-old Christopher Sloan, who was charged with violation of the sex offender registry for allegedly concealing the fact that he had a vehicle and failing to register that vehicle with the sheriff’s office.
