The White House announced Monday more than 200 educators, including four from Georgia, will receive a presidential award for their work in teaching math and science.

The Georgia winners are:

  • Cindy Apley Rose, who has taught math at Gwinnett County's Couch Middle School for 19 years.
  • Amanda Cavin, an assistant principal in the Henry County school system, who has specialized in working with students to use math in real-world situations.
  • Steven King, the science specialist at Clarke County's Whit Davis Elementary School.
  • Marc Pedersen, a science teacher at Paulding County High School, who has won awards for his work educating students in biology, chemistry and physics.

All four educators will receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation to be used at their discretion.

The educators will receive their awards at a ceremony in Washington on Sept. 8.
