The public will have two opportunities to learn more about Atlanta Public Schools' upcoming budget.

The $843 million tentative budget, prepared as district officials await final word on the extent of expected state budget cuts, would be balanced by using about $30 million in fund reserves and by cutting funding to schools and central administration, postponing a big textbook purchase and other trims.

The school board earlier this month approved a tentative version of the plan. The board is scheduled to give final approval June 22. The budget covers the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Typically, district officials would host several meetings about the budget to give residents a chance to ask questions and give feedback. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, those meetings have moved online.

The first virtual meeting will take place via video conference at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 11. The second is scheduled for 5 p.m. June 16.

Those who wish to participate can join the meeting at this link. To join by telephone, call 877-853-5247. The meeting identification number is 912 8315 8971. The password is 505628.
