Video retort to John Oliver’s charter school diatribe can win $100,000

The war of words continues between late-night comic and social commentator John Oliver and charter school proponents.

Oliver lashed out at charter schools on his HBO show nine days ago, and the clip of the blistering tirade has been seen more than 5 billion times on YouTube. Oliver criticizes what he considers the lack of accountability in charter schools, which are public schools that operate independently under contracts with the state or local school districts.

That autonomy has resulted in fiscal mismanagement in some instances, and Oliver highlights the worst examples from around the country on his show.

Now, a pro charter school group is offering a $100,000 prize to the charter school that creates the best rebuttal video to Oliver's rant.
