The principal of Beaver Ridge Elementary in Gwinnett County’s Norcross cluster sent a letter home to parents on Wednesday after a student brought a gun to school.

“Our administrators received a tip that a student may have a weapon on campus. We moved quickly to investigate and during our search we did find that a student had a gun in his possession. It appears that this student showed the weapon to other students but did not threaten anyone and he did not state any intention to hurt anyone,” wrote Karen Lillard.

She went on to say that the student will face school disciplinary action as well as criminal charges for having a weapon on campus.

Lillard praised the student who came forward and reminded all students that if they “see something they should say something immediately to an adult at home or school.”
