Nicole Smith's second-grade class at Shoal Creek Elementary was the number one class among all grades in Rockdale County in the First in Math program; the number one second-grade class in the program in the state of Georgia, and number five in the nation out of second-grade classes. Mrs. Smith said, "The program is very motivational. I think the format that First in Math uses to help kids develop their basic math skills is outstanding. The games are fun for the kids, yet students get real skills practice from the repetitive format of the games. There are also many different types of games so kids remain consistently interested and engaged."
