On average, a Gwinnett County school bus is in some form of accident or gets damaged once every other day, state data shows.

Through November, Gwinnett had 153 crashes, according to data The Atlanta Journal-Constitution received earlier this month from Georgia Department of Education. Last year, Gwinnett reported 179 crashes. In 2014, the school district reported 173 crashes, according to state data.

The state collects bus accident data by calendar year.

Gwinnett school district spokeswoman Sloan Roach noted that most crashes are not the bus driver’s fault. Slightly less than one-third of bus accidents statewide are the bus driver’s fault, state data shows. The rest are the other motorist’s fault or it’s undetermined who’s responsible. She also said Gwinnett’s drivers travel about 24 million miles a year.

Some school districts have not reported all of their crashes, state officials said. To read more, click here.
