Several schools in metro Atlanta worked with the University of South Florida and other experts on a model for teaching young children to adapt to the classroom.
The Early Learning Climate Prototype aims to teach kids to recognize their own and others' emotions and to make friends, according to the Georgia Department of Education. It also hopes to instill understanding and respect for rules and schedules, so youngsters can more readily adapt to the rigors of the classroom.
The program is at a handful of schools in Atlanta and DeKalb and Fulton counties, with funding from the David, Helen, and Marian Woodward Fund and help from DOE, the Metropolitan Regional Educational Service Agency and Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning.
