The vast majority of Georgia voters support the use of lottery funds for statewide pre-kindergarten, according to a new poll by an education advocacy group.
Coinciding with Georgia Pre-K Week, the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS) is unveiling the first of a series of results from the poll that points to early care and education as a critical issue that generates strong, bipartisan support among voters.
The full survey results will be shared during the Oct. 13 “GEEAR Up for the Future: An Early Education Summit” in Atlanta, which will feature one-on-one Q & A sessions on early care and education with gubernatorial candidates Gov. Nathan Deal and state Sen. Jason Carter.
U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn, state school superintendent candidates Valarie Wilson and Richard Woods, and other speakers from business, law enforcement and research communities also will share their views on education issues.
“Our new poll of Georgia voters shows that 87 percent support the use of lottery funds to provide voluntary pre-kindergarten for four-year-olds,” said Mindy Binderman, executive eirector of GEEARS, in a released statement. “This is key data that should inform policy decisions to expand and strengthen Georgia pre-k.”
This week, hundreds of leaders are in Georgia pre-k classrooms as part of Pre-K Week, which aims to highlight both learning and community support for early education in Georgia.
