Parent group upset with long federal investigation

July 26, 2016

A parent group is not happy that the U.S. Education Department is still investigating its complaint of a Gwinnett County school district initiative, five years after the complaint was filed.

“I have no more information than I’ve had before and I’m pretty bummed out about that,” said Marlyn Tillman, co-founder of the group that filed the complaint, the Gwinnett Parent Coalition to Dismantle the School to Prison Pipeline.

The group believes Gwinnett’s involvement in an initiative aimed at giving the school district greater educational flexibility may come at the expense of most non-white students and students with disabilities.
