Throughout its 104 years in existence, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has focused on community service, political activism, youth mentoring, philanthropic efforts, recognizing the fine arts through alumni and collegiate chapters throughout the United States and beyond.

The continuation of Omega Psi Phi proves that African-American middle class is alive and well and is unique in networking through Greek-letter groups people join throughout their lives.

Today, Omega Psi Phi awards millions in scholarships to worthy and deserving high school and college students. The biennial Talent Hunt Demonstration is a celebration of the fine and performing arts.

Youth leadership conferences are sponsored by the Fraternity and are in urban communities throughout the United States. The sessions target African-American and other minority young men ages 13-18 and focus on self-esteem, goal setting and academic success, health, sexual awareness, social and personal responsibility and conflict resolution.

Founded, a mere 46 years following the end of slavery, Omega Psi Phi became the first African-American Greek-lettered organization for men to be founded on the campus of a historically Black college.

Inside the third-floor biology office, three Howard University upperclassmen and their faculty advisor sought to address the racial hostilities of the day and find ways to uplift the African-American community. That conversation between Oscar J. Cooper, Frank Coleman, Edgar A. Love and Ernest E. Just led to the creation of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

The fraternity’s membership is over 175,000 in more than 700 undergraduate and graduate chapters throughout the United States, Canada, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.

Radio personality Tom Joyner, civil rights leader Jesse Jackson Sr., and NBA icons Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal, U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, former Virginia Gov. Douglas Wilder, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher are among some of the fraternity’s notable members.

For the past six years, Omega Psi Phi has been one of the leading supporters and partners successfully pushing President Barack Obama's call to action on fatherhood and mentoring

The Fraternity forged a formal partnership with the White House Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative as well as the My Brother's Keeper Initiative. Both efforts focus on the president’s ongoing effort to promote fatherhood and strengthen families and communities.

It has strategic partnerships with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America and the America Red Cross. The fraternity conducts blood and bone marrow drives in honor of Charles R. Drew, a fraternity member who once served as director of the Red Cross’ blood bank system.

Omega men continue to play an integral role in the social, culture and political fabric of African-Americans.
