Most Cobb County schools have “above average” classroom learning environments, according to annual state rankings released Wednesday.

Sixty-four of the 110 Cobb schools rated received a 4, or an above average rating, on the state’s School Climate Star Ratings system. Five is excellent while 1 is unsatisfactory.

Thirteen schools received a 5, or excellent, score. Six received unsatisfactory or below satisfactory rating, which is a 2. Twenty-seven schools received an average rating of 3.

Cobb’s ratings remained largely unchanged from last year. None of the 11 Marietta schools rated received a score below a 3.

The school climate rating system creates the scores by using student disciplinary data, attendance records and surveys filled out by students, parents and teachers asking their opinions about whether their school is a safe place to learn.

Statewide, the number of schools with unsatisfactory ratings increased by 20 from last year while 75 fewer schools received excellent ratings.
