Marietta Police Department officials said Wednesday they are planning a free seminar to train Georgia teachers how to protect themselves and students if an armed intruder is at their school.
The session will include tips on how to secure your classroom to deny the intruder’s access, what items a teacher can use to protect themselves and what to do what law enforcement arrives. The seminar is scheduled for Wed., March 2, 6 p.m. at Marietta High School, 1171 Whitlock Ave.
Several Georgia law enforcement agencies have held similar training sessions in recent months in the wake of mass shootings in places such as Paris and San Bernardino, Calif.
All teachers ranging from daycare to universities are invited and allowed to bring one guest. Teachers can reserve a place at the workshop by going to https://mpdteachers.eventbrite.com. All attendees must show school identification upon arrival.
