Acclaimed actor-songwriter Christopher Jackson will be the keynote speaker at Oglethorpe University’s commencement ceremony, officials there announced Wednesday.

Jackson, an Emmy and Grammy award winner, originated the role of George Washington in the Broadway smash hit "Hamilton: An American Musical," and currently stars on the CBS television show "Bull."

The commencement is scheduled on Sat., May 12, 9 a.m. on its campus, 4484 Peachtree Road in Atlanta.

Oglethorpe president Lawrence M. Schall said in a statement Jackson was chosen to speak not only for his accomplishments as an entertainer but for his work as an autism awareness advocate. Jackson’s son was diagnosed with autism in 2007.

"Throughout his career and his life, Christopher Jackson has shown a passion for making a social impact and inspiring empathy -- both through his craft and through his efforts supporting early childhood education and autism awareness," said Schall. "He shares Oglethorpe's commitment to ensuring that our next generations succeed and thrive."
