The Gwinnett County school system has hired a new chief information officer.

School board members voted Thursday to give the job to Frank Elmore, who has held the same title for the Orange County Public School system in Orlando, Fla. Gwinnett and Orange County last year were named co-recipients of the Broad Prize, a prestigious award given to school districts that make strides in closing the achievement gap between white and minority students.

Elmore’s job duties will include leading and directing information systems and telecommunication operations.

Elmore has been in his current job for nearly three years. He has held information-technology jobs in the U.S. military.

Gwinnett’s most recent current chief information officer, Scott Futrell, retired in March.
